Trim levels in the new Ford Explorer

The Ford Explorer offers buyers in the Northland a total of eight different trims to choose from:

  •   Base
  • XLT
  • ST-Line
  • Limited
  • Timberline
  • ST
  • King Ranch
  • Platinum

Interior convenience and cargo space

Getting into the standard third row is simple with the help of a mechanism that can move the second-row seat out of the way with the touch of a button. The Ford Explorer gives families in Liberty and Gladstone 18.2 cubic feet of room behind the third row and 47.9 cubic feet when the third row is folded down. When you drop both rows you'll get a maximum of 87 cubic feet for cargo. A power liftgate is a standard feature and a hands-free power liftgate is an available option that can come in handy when you're tailgating out at Arrowhead. Go Chiefs!

Interior technology

The latest edition of the Ford Explorer comes with standard infotainment features that include an 8-inch touch screen, satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hotspot, smartphone connectivity and a six-speaker stereo. Other standard features include a 4.2-inch driver information display and tri-zone automatic climate control. Available technical upgrades include a 10.1-inch touch screen, wireless device charging, a premium Bang & Olufsen stereo system with up to 14 speakers and the fun of a rear-seat entertainment system. Other available features include proximity keyless entry, remote start, a household-style power outlet and a moonroof.

Engines and performance options

The first three trim levels come with a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that's good for 300 horsepower. With the Timberline model, that power plant can reach 60 mph in just 6.0 seconds. Higher trim levels get the twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine that delivers 400 horsepower. The standard Explorer comes with rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive is an available option. A 10-speed automatic transmission comes standard across the lineup and when it's properly equipped, the new Explorer has a maximum towing capability of up to 5,600 pounds.

Fuel economy

  • The most fuel-efficient new Ford Explorer is the rear-wheel drive version of the turbo-four that will give you 21 MPG on city streets and 28 MPG on Missouri highways.
  • With all-wheel drive, you'll be getting 20 MPG in the city and 27 MPG on the highway.
  • When it's equipped with the twin-turbo V6, the Ford Explorer gives you 18 MPG in the city and 26 MPG on the highway with rear-wheel drive.
  • If you elect to go with all-wheel drive, the V6 will come in at about 18 MPG in the city and 24 MPG on the highway.

Safety features

The new Ford Explorer has standard safety features to protect Blue Springs families that include forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, a lane-departure warning system, lane-keeping assist, a rearview camera, automatic high-beam headlights, rear cross-traffic alert and a blind-spot warning system. Available safety upgrades include a surround-view camera system, adaptive headlights, lane centering assist, front parking sensors and adaptive cruise control.
